Sterling Vineyard
Sterling Vineyard, Napa Valley
In Upper Napa Valley sits an Disneyland-like winery called
Sterling Vineyards, south of Calistoga. High atop the wildly forrested hills
sits striking white buildings all with bells on top. You couldn't see them
from the parking lot of the winery because you have to take a Gondola to get
up the rolling hills. Hence, a very Disney-like attraction this winery is.
It's fun for everyone to go up the gondalas to see Napa Valley from some of
the tallest man-made heights. The style of architecture was inspired by the
Greek island buildings of Mykonos.
Sterling Vineyards were established in 1969 with the purchase of fifty vineyard
acres by Englishman Peter Newton. The winery completed a $14 million renovation
in 2002 to include 3 new tasting rooms, and the addition of the popular gondolas.
Sterling now owns over 1200 acres of vineyards in Napa Valley. The properties
vary in soil, microclimates and topography, which gives Sterling the capabilty
to produce many different variatals. There four different offerings are: Sauvignon
Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Merlot.
Napa Valley Wine Country Tours often visit this winery. Sterling Vineyards
is a part of the California Wine Country as well as the Napa
Valley Wine Country. Sonoma wineries are not far from this specific winery.
Sterling Vineyards is located 2 miles south of Calistoga in Napa Valley and
is across from Twomey Cellars .
