Wine Country Tour Tips
Things to Consider:
First and Foremost: AVOID DRIVING YOUR FIRST TIME TO WINE COUNTRY
By taking a wine tour you get the extra benefit of not worrying about where to go or how to get there. Further, you don't realize how much wine some of these wineries pour and before you know it you might be breaking the law while driving. Taking a tour relieves you of that worry.
Additional Tips and Thoughts to Consider
- Why do some tours visit wineries that do not charge tasting fees? Makes you wonder. We recommend investigatin this on your given how expensive wine is. What is the hook? Both the Napa Experience Tour and the Sonoma Experience Tour visits wineries that charge a tasting fee to ensure quality of wine and service. You're probably coming here once this year - - we suggest doing it right!
- The drive from San Francisco to most parts of Napa is about 90 minutes. About 70 minutes to Sonoma (reason why most locals visit Sonoma - closer).
- Napa Experience Tour takes the Baylink Ferry Cruise (which completely avoids traffic).
- V.Sattui Winery is a local favorite. You will see why when you get there. If you do not take the Napa Experience Tour, you should try visiting V.Sattui on your own. Fantastic winery grounds and affordable wine options.
- The Napa Experience Tour partakes in a beautiful Picnic Lunch at V. Sattui (lunch costs not included) where you will get to choose what you like and take it to a picnic table outside and eat with others in the group. Our opinion is to just buy bread, a couple different cheeses and a bottle of wine and sit outside and enjoy yourself.
- Consider which tasting fees actually include winery tours. We find that you do not need to do more than one winery tour in a day. Too many winery tours at the wineries can be a little too much.
- How many people are they putting on my tour? Believe it or not, too few people can make for a boring tour at times. It's good to meet others on tours and see how they enjoy similar wines, tastes and experiences. The Wine Country Tour Shuttle (Napa Experience and Sonoma Experience) has up to 35 people on our shuttles. Some motorcoach companies will pack in as many as 55 passengers. We find that our wineries can fully handle our perfectly-sized tour groupings.
- Wine Pairing Dinner Option. After you have gone on either tour (Napa experience or Sonoma experience) you might want to consider the idea of pairing great California wines with food during your stay in San Francisco. Sometimes good wine just needs something more and we have realized this need at a wine pairing dinner event (Thursday - Sunday) where after the tours, we will take you to a unique San Franciso location where you will taste wine, rate wines, pair wines with food and meet others. This 2 hour event will surely be one of the most unique things you have ever done in another city. Leave it to San Francisco to provide you this opportunity! Wine Pairing Dinner Information
