TYPES OF WINES BASED ON THE GRAPES USED

Wines differ in taste depending upon the type of grapes used in the making of it. The flavors can change due to various reasons like soil, climate, how the grapes are ferments, how the wine is ages, type of yeast used and exposure to sunlight. In California if a wine is referred to by the name of the grape then it should contain at least 75% of grape content in it. Chardonnay for instance contains 75% of grape. Oregon contains 90% of that grape. Alsace requires 100% of that grape in it. Napa Valley Tours offer you great wine tasting sessions at the best wineries in the wine country. There are four main categories of wine.

Red wines include barbera, cabernet Sauvignon, chianti, merlot, nebbiolo, petite Sirah, pinot Noir, sangiovese, syrah/Shiraz, tempranillo and zinfandel.

White ones are Chablis, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Gewurztraminer, Muscat, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Savignon/Fume Blanc, Semillon and Viognier.

Dessert wines are Madeira, Port, Sherry and Vermouth.

Other wines are Champagne/Sparkling Wine, Kosher Wine, Rose and White Zinfandel.
