Wine driving through its history

We all are aware that wine has been as one of the most popular beverage throughout the history. Records have shown that people have been enjoying wine since the last 4500 years. It was in the early 6000 B.C that people have been drinking wine. Wine residues were found in ceramic jars from the Neolithic sites. However the scientists were not completely sure about the results. The earliest firm evidence has been from Iran in almost 5400-5000 B.C. People are not much sure about the time when its history began; there have evidences that state the people had been drinking in Middle East as far as 2500 B.C. There are many references available in the Old Testament about the usage of grapes for wine preparation.

In Ancient Egyptian tomb walls, there is winemaking scenes found along with the list of types of wines that the people have enjoyed. Ancient Greece is known for the inception of many traditions that have become a part of the modern culture. There was a deity called as Dionysus which was referred as God of wine. They also had a festival celebrated in their honor called as Anthesteria, which comprised of wine-drinking contests. Wine has remained as popular beverage in the Diet chart of the Romans. It was the first time when wines were served in bottles for storage and barrels were used for shipping wine.

It was during the dark ages that there was a chaotic condition prevailing and the method of growing grapes was completely not known but Catholic Church remained stable inspite of the social changes.

In recent times wine has gained tremendous importance than ever. There has been an increase in the retail sales of almost 30percent to 50 percent. Wine bars are known as the hot new trend these days. Wine has a continuing role in the religious rituals; you can still find it in churches, weddings and other major events.
