Tips to Read a Wine Label

It is usual that for a drink like wine you need to assess the quality because wines are quite expensive but the experience and the feel which they provide cannot be compared by anyone, so for an expensive and excellent experience it is essential that you need to know the wine label.
First glance: You can judge a wine by its label unlike a book which cannot be judged. Labels provide a personality to the wine, the design of the label does act as an eye catcher. But it is not guaranteed that the label of the wine does not act as signature for the guarantee of its good taste.A close examination of the label will give you the name of the wine and the place from where the grapes are bought, sometimes it might also include the place from where the wine has been harvested, the company's name, the alcohol content, bottle's net contents. Some of this information appears on the front of the label that is the consumer's label and some on behind of the bottle.

Manufacturer's information: This is considered to be the most important thing to be known in the wine, because quality wines come out from good wineries. There are three expressions used here:
  • Grown, produced, bottled by: This indicates the grapes have been grown, wine is produced and it is bottled by the same manufacturer.
  • Produced and bottled by: This indicates that the company mentioned has crushed the purchased grapes and bottled the grapes.
  • Cellared and bottled by: This indicates that the wine has been fermented else where and bottled by the person whose name or the organization has been listed there.
Nature of the wine: Incase the wine is made from only one variety of group then the name of the grapes would be indicated, if it is made from the blend of two or more varieties of grapes then in rare cases the name of the grapes would be listed. The grapes determine the quality of the wine; most of the wine lovers have complete knowledge about the different kinds of grapes.
